On South Richard Street in Bedford, the Bedford Elks Country Club has long been the kind of place where a Tuesday afternoon round turns into a two-hour conversation at the bar. Rated 4.2 stars across 183 reviews, this club draws a loyal crowd precisely because it doesn't take itself too seriously. The 9-hole layout is approachable enough for a first-timer and satisfying enough to keep the regulars coming back week after week.

The course features fluffy sand traps that actually play like sand traps should, a detail that golfers in the reviews specifically call out as a pleasant surprise. The greens are maintained with care, and the layout rewards smart shot-making over raw distance. It's the kind of track where a high-handicapper walks off feeling like they learned something, and a scratch golfer walks off genuinely challenged.

Beyond the fairways, the club's interior has been freshly renovated, giving members and guests a comfortable place to unwind after the round. The Elks tradition of community runs deep here, and that spirit shows in the way the staff and regulars treat every visitor as a familiar face.

What We Offer

The 9-hole golf course is the centerpiece, designed to be both accessible and engaging. Sand traps are placed strategically throughout, and the layout suits players who want a genuine challenge without the four-hour commitment of a full 18. It's a go-to recommendation for anyone introducing a friend or family member to the game.

Inside the clubhouse, bowling lanes offer a second reason to visit on days when the weather won't cooperate. The recently renovated interior provides a welcoming backdrop for casual outings, Elks Lodge events, and private gatherings. Food and drink service rounds out the experience, giving members a full afternoon or evening destination without ever leaving the property.

Membership through the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks connects golfers and bowlers alike to a broader fraternal community, with events, charitable programs, and social gatherings that extend well beyond the course itself.

"Not well trimmed. A lot of spots with no grass. And one of the workers swore at me. Absolutely unacceptable behavior from someone running a golf course. Definitely will not be back and will not recommend."

"Great 9 hole very well maintained golf course. Not too long but a great place to take a new or high handicap golfer. Few sand traps sprinkled throughout the course which actually have fluffy sand. Starts off with a slight dogleg par 5, followed by a simple short par 3 and longer par 4. Then a par 4 over a creek where you can't see the green until your second shot. Up hill blind green shot par 3. Great views. Back down the hill par 4 dogleg into a valley. Then par 4 which you can't see the green behind a giant pine tree, must place your drive on the right side of the fairway, creek protects the front of the green so your second shot has to fly onto the green. Finally 2 longer par 4s, one is a slight dogleg the other straight to finish the round. Try it you'll like it."

"The inside has been redone and it looks great. We were on lane 5 and lane 6. We bowled for 2 hours but probably spent 30 minutes of that time waiting for the balls to come back. They got jammed up quite a bit in lane 6. Other than that we had a very nice time."

"I was recently here to go bowling and the reviews that mentioned rude staff were definitely correct. Me and a couple of my friends went here and with it being a country club I asked if we could bowl without being a member and the lady at the front looked around and gave me a sarcastic remark about how they were full (it was empty). I was simply asking a question that I’m sure has been asked before. She ignored me and my friend and would really only talk to the men I came with. I definitely agree with the people who say she was rude to female customers."

"Everything is clean, the people are very nice and friendly. Nice family atmosphere. Bowling for the whole family. Prices for rental shoes and lane per games are very reasonable. Video Games for the "kids" , pinball, arcade games. No snack bar but they have drink machines and snack machines."
